I paint to bring the beauty of God’s creation to others. The more I paint, the stronger the desire grows to capture this intense beauty I see every day. I have in me a deep sense of responsibility to show this beauty I see to the world. The mystery, richness and loveliness of God’s creation takes my breath away every day and it’s this beauty I strive to capture when I paint.
This beauty is found often in people. In my portraits I strive to capture the spirit of the person; the curve of their smile, their attitude, way of looking at life, dignity or innocence. It is sheer pleasure to paint those people or places I have come to know and love, so that viewers may taste some of the richness I have experienced through a person or place. But beyond that, the primary reason I am so drawn to people in my work is that it is through the human race that we can get a glimpse of who our Creator is. As incredibly complex beings made in the image of God, we are the closest concrete image to Divinity on this earth, and it’s with a sense of awe and fascination that I begin every portrait.
In every painting, I try to convey a specific message. My belief is that all art should be created with the common purpose of lifting the viewer out of ordinary life, of bringing their attention to the pure and transcendent, whether that be by the actual beauty of the
image portrayed, or the power in the message. It is my desire and hope to bring this beauty to you.
